Missing Air Asia Flight QZ8501 - possible scenarios

It is now the third day of the search for this missing Air Asia Flight.  So far, there is no end yet in sight.

The search is now being expanded outside of the Plane's original flight path.  This begs the question:  Did it veer left?  Or veered right?

If it veered left, it would have crashed in the vicinity of the Bangka and Belitung group of islands.  There is a lot of commercial activity in this area whether on land or at sea.  It is highly remote that no one would have witnessed the early morning crash of something as big as an airliner.

If it veered right and crashed on the remote forests of West Kalimantan, that would be a totally different ballgame.  This area is sparsely populated.  Forest growth in Indonesia can also be very thick.

Secondary growth forests are the worst.  In the ones I have entered, you can wave your hand in front of your eyes and not see anything.  And this was at noon.

But I think the expanded search zone has not yet reached the forests of West Kalimantan.

Hopefully, we will see some positive results soon, so that this search will remain a purely-on-the-water affair...

The unofficial passenger list of the missing Air Asia flight from Surabaya.

Air Asia flight missing in Indonesia

An Air Asia flight went missing on a flight from Surabaya to Singapore a few hours ago.

Surabaya is the 2nd biggest city in Indonesia.

Hopefully, this is just all a miscommunication.  And no act of terrorism is involved.

But if our worst fear comes true.  This would be Strike No. 3 for Malaysia.

Air Asia is also a Malaysian company...

Lessons from the Sydney terrorist attack...

Lessons from the Sydney terrorist attack:

1. The perpetrator will normally be one of the usual suspects.

The Sydney Attacker's bio has "potential terrorist" written all over it.  He was not really Mr. Nowhere Man from Nowhere Land.

2. People will still find a way to acquire guns in a gun control state.

Australia has very strict gun control laws.  How did that bloke got hold of a shotgun?

3. Only an armed population can hope to stop a "Lone Wolf" attacker.

The situation could have been nipped in the bud by a coffee drinker who was carrying.  A thought that other gun control states should seriously ponder.

4.  Always be alert even in familiar places.

In this era of global terrorism, these loonies can strike anywhere.  Anytime.

Even your usual street corner coffee hole is no longer safe.

So never take anything for granted.  Always watch your six.
